Poem for a Broken World

The world is breaking,

And cracking apart.

As villains sate

Their charcoal hearts.

The words grow senseless,

And yet the battles rage on.

The wars seem endless,

Though no one has won.

With bright flashes and colored lights,

Explosions dot the turbulent nights.

And in the morning,

Not a lesson was learned.

Another sunrise, exposes the flies,

That come to gather on the dead.

A morning paper, full of lies,

For your pretty little head.

It’s over, it’s all over,

That’s what I’m told.

The world is gone,

And we’ve all been sold.

So then where are we to go,

When a king becomes a foe?

And the subjects are stark, raving mad,

Captivate to a paradise they never had?

And the blood keeps flowing,

It settles in a pool.

The violence keeps growing,

As more tyrants take rule.

And to me, what does this mean?

The gruesome images on the flashing screen.

Seen through a haze,

With bloodshot eyes and nicotine.

The bullets, the tanks, the planes, the mines,

Are all on sale for dollar signs.

And nobody gave it a second thought,

Before shipping ‘em off to the frontlines.

Are we to die?

Are we to fight?

Exercise our forgotten might?

To take control and make it right.

Or is it merely a fool’s dream forged from plight.

And the carnival keeps going,

As the armies take their place.

Sparkling teeth showing,

Veins pulsing in the face.

And while the wicked do all they can.

We scramble and scramble,

And try to plan.

And when the wars have come and past,

Will humanity find peace at last?

Or are we forever bound by the cruelty of man?

It all reminds me of a song I used to know,

I can almost hear how the words would go.

Oh how the melody would play,

“There will come a day,

When kings will know, and love can grow.”
